Blessed Are the Broken-Hearted

“But to this one I will look”
The Lord has said and we have heard
“To him who is humble and contrite of spirit
And who trembles at My word”

Better are the tears that flow
And lips that for mercy plead
Than a proud and haughty spirit
That believes it has no need

Better is a broken heart
Better a soul in pain
Than all the hollow praise of men
We would labor to attain

So Lord, remind me of my many failings
Remind me of my sin
Those things I try so hard to hate
But are drawn to time and again

Create in me a clean heart, O God
And renew a steadfast spirit within me
Do not cast me away from your presence
And do not take your Holy Spirit from me

Lord, forgive me of my many sins
And restore the joy of my salvation
And give me the strength I need
To resist any and all temptation

And remind me of Your precious promise
That Christ will finish what He started
And that He has a special love
For those who grieve and are broken-hearted
